Hand Stiching With Machine Thread

Until I get a machine, I am going to hand stitch some of my projects. I thought it may be a good idea to use the same thread that is used on a machine. This way i can understand the different sizes and textures. Is this recommended?

I use machine thread for handsewn repairs and to match machiune stitching in places I can't get a machine into. You can get a little sticky wax like besswax to grab it a bit.

So can I use the Nylex (sp) thread and just rub it with beeswax. The stuff I get from TLF is already waxed.

I have used machine thread to hand stitch (bonded nylon) but only when I really have to...I sure don't enjoy it, it like stitching with a wet noodle, even when I've run it through beeswax....but it got the job done.

When there is a part that I have to hand stitch, I will use the bonded nylon thread only if I have to match the thread that will be machine stitched. If I don't have to, then I will use waxed thread from Tandy.

i use the tandy machine thread....the #69 nylon. it works out very well and i have, like a million feet of it. i'd like to try some linen, tho.

Hi Ramrod, I have a question for you if you do not mind please.

I also have this tandy Z69 nylon and I have been trying to use it with my machine like a million times and every time I give up exhausted. This nylon is so slick, it winds around the bobbin on a second stitch and the machine stops making warning noise. My machine is not a special machine for leather, I just use special needles and foot for leather but I think this is not the reason? How do you use the nylon on bobins so they keep thread tension? Thank you!

jacket potato - well, first i have to apologize to you....i don't know how or why i got #69 in my head. but the thread size i'm hand sewing with is the tandy 277 machine thread. i've made a few posts and stated #69 in each of them. i feel like a total idiot.

i'm sorry, but i can't answer your question. i'm sure one of the sharper and waay more experienced sewing machine gurus will be able to help out on this one. you might want to state what machine you're using forst of all so these guys can help you.
