Help With Consew 226 From Owners

I have lurked around here for a while and now am in need of some help.

I have Consew 226r that I was replacing two parts on: the needle bar and the shuttle hook assembly. Before I took the machine apart I took some pictures so I could reassemble it correctly but these pictures ended up getting erased.

I know there are some 226 owners around and was hoping they could provide me with two pieces of information which would be a HUGE help:

1. Distance from throat plate to bottom of the needle bar when balance wheel is at 0 (to the bar itself not the small thread loop that attaches at the bottom).

If it is easier take this measurement from the bottom of the needle to the throat plate. The needle bar is the piece that the needle slides into.

2. The "clock" location of the end of the hook on the shuttle when the balance wheel is at zero. To clarify: the shuttle is what the bobbin snaps into. On this is a hook that ends in a sharp point. When the balance wheel is zeroed I would like to know where the tip of this hook is relative to a clock face. This would be where the tip of this hook actually is, NOT the direction it is pointing as if it were an arrow, but where the very tip is as if it were on a clock face with the observer standing directly in front of it; i.e. 1 o'clock, 3:30, etc.

Pictures for number 2 would be helpful but are likely not necessary.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I have serviced my own machines for years and have never found myself in this situation. I don't have a good technician near me and I would like to get this back on line.

The easiest way to time it is,put the point of the hook @ approx 7:00 with the needlebar @ bottom dead center.OR if you were also put the needlebar all the wat down & took a piece of string from the center of the bobbincase to the front needle plate screw it (point of hook) should be right under it.Then once you get the hook in time you can adjust the needlebar so the point of the hook meets the just above the eye of the needle.

This worked perfectly and now I have a better understanding of how everything works in concert. Sewing nicely now but I had to go back to my old shuttle because the hook on the new shuttle was bent outward and hitting the needle. I tried to carefully bend it back in and the tip broke. I'll contact you offline to see if you can get that part.

Well,as you now found out you can't bend chrome steel.You could of loosened the 2-clamping screws & moved it to the right so it wouldn't hit,as they wear it's common to have to move them to the left so they are closer to the needle.
