Members Jim G Posted July 1, 2012 Members Report Posted July 1, 2012 Friends, Some friends just gave me a beautiful old Champion wide throat needle/awl stitcher. I have been sewing my sheaths for the knives a make by hand so very excited about getting it going. This is all new to me so please excuse my ignorance. My questions are what kind of thread to buy and what size needles and awls and where is a supplier of this type of thing. Thanks in advance. PS Anyone know where I could get a good manual for this machine. Thanks again, Jim G Quote
Members mogwild Posted July 1, 2012 Members Report Posted July 1, 2012 (edited) Campbell-Randall lists a needle for Champion machines: http://www.campbell-...y&path=49_82_88 Maybe Campbell Awls will work? Not sure on that one. In "getting to the point" Part 2, they list the thread as being 4-9 Cord: http://www.campbell-...Point-Part2.pdf There's also a needle and awl chart near the bottom of that PDF for the Champion based on thread size (277-554) Also see the note underneath that chart: The American & Champion needle charts are rated for harder shoe leathers. Harness and saddle leathers will allow for a smaller needle and awl set Edited July 1, 2012 by mogwild Quote
