Members Matt Alsaker Posted July 2, 2012 Members Report Posted July 2, 2012 The only leather I have ever used is natural strap veg tanned. I have a belt my wife bought me about 15 years ago that I would like to make a new one of. I'm not not sure how it happened, but I've made it to the last notch on the belt. I don't know what type of leathers are appropriate for making a belt. I know it's hard to tell from the photo what type of leather the existing belt is, but does anyone have a guess? It does not feel or look like veg tanned. What type of leathers are appropriate for making belts? Thanks for your feedback. Quote
Members Leatherimages Posted July 2, 2012 Members Report Posted July 2, 2012 Well someone did a nice job on it whatever it is. And 15 years is pretty darned good! But my guess would be waxed veg retan. Horween has a leather called Beaumont, Maveric Leather is carrying it. Quote
Members Rayban Posted July 4, 2012 Members Report Posted July 4, 2012 I recommend these guys: http://zackwhite.com/xcart/home.php?cat=647 You can buy just one strip at whatever width, thickness, or length you want....veg tanned is what you want. Tandy is a good source too, there may be a store in your area. Quote
