Weather Proof For Severe Conditions

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on making some gators for hiking and I don't have any oil tanned leather, only veggie tanned.

I've got lots of thicknesses and suede as well so designing and decorating (if I feel like it) isn't a problem.

What I need to know is how do I weather proof the leather enough to withstand harsh enviroments without totaly soaking them in neatsfoot oil, or is that the only way?

If you're not sure what a gator is; they are sleve like items that cover the top of your boot from about the ankle and go up to just below the knee. they are used to keep water and dirt from getting in your boots and protect your lower pant legs.

Canvas waterproofing would repel water.

That sounds like a good one! I just called the supplier and got the answers I wanted. And there are two suppliers in town.

Thanks!

I'd endorse Sno-Seal too. Just keep the tin handy as it will need regular re-application.
