Hey All,

I would like to ask a favor, would someone mind posting or pm'ing me a seat pan template? I'd would like to try making a seat but dont really want to spend 50$+ on a pan for a trial run. I was thinking of using the template to cut out a plywood section and working with that. I totally understand and apologize if I'm stepping on toes by asking. I'll suck it up at some point and buy a pan if I'm asking to much.

Thanks!

So many styles, so many frames. You probably ought to just pick one you think you can do. On ebay, they are 35-39 dollars. You could probably find rough shapes and measurements there, if you want to try an make it out of tin.

I just picked up an "Ultima" pan off eBay for $35 Delivered to my door! There are ways to make your OWN seat pan using Blue painters tape, Tin Tape & Fiberglass, but unless you have it laying around, you're gonna spend $20 - $30 for materials. Besides, if you buy a pan off eBay, you can make seat COVERS and reuse the same pan...

Jammon,

I hate to rain on your idea, but, seat pans aren't flat. You need a pan with the proper contour. It's easy to cover a flat board and get the leather to lay flat. The trick to learn is how to get it to lay flat on a contoured pan. And simply shaping the padding isn't going to get it done either. You really need the shaped padding on a contoured pan. Don't worry about the $50 so much, your first seat will probably never see a bike.....It took me 4 tries to make something that was decent.

My apologies guys, guess I should have been more specific in the style I was looking for which was a solo/sprung style seat. I'm not a big fan of ebay due to some past experineces so I generally tend to shy away from there. But that looks like the only option at this point. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
