Armsman70 Report post Posted September 13, 2012 Hello I recently received some vegetable tanned leather about the 6oz in weight. It's in good condition, surface is clean but it looks a little old and I think dry. I took a small piece while dry and gave it a fold and the surface cracked. What would i need to do to get it so that when folded ( making buckle straps) it doesnt crack ? Thanks for any advice given. Pat Marshall

Pat Marshall I think you answered your own question. You have a bad piece of leather. You should replace it with one of better quality. If you do use it for something whatever you make will likely fail in a short time.
Tree Reaper Report post Posted September 13, 2012 Try rubbing Neatsfoot Oil into it and letting it sit for 24hrs. then try your bend test. If making a sharp fold, skive some leather from the back side along the fold. I always try and dampen the leather on a bend prior to bending.
