ArtS Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 A while back Duke posted a note about a friend of his that was making head knives. I sent him a design that I had in mind and he made me one. I really like the feel of it. Here are some shots of it. It has a soapstone handle. ArtS Quote Art Schwab "You cannot teach a man anything. Contributing Member rdb Posted August 3, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted August 3, 2008 That's a beaut!. I couldn't figure out your design, until I saw the picture of you holding it. I'm not sure, but that looks like an ultimate control of the blade, with the hand wrapped around the whole thing...might just work real well. The minus might be hand cramps over long periods of time cutting? Not sure what the serrated notches are for? Quote Web page Facebook
ArtS Posted August 3, 2008 Author Report Posted August 3, 2008 No cramps! Actually less because of the part that goes into the crock of my hand between my thumb and first finger. It gives me something else to push with. I don't have to hold my hand as tight as I would without it. It works great so far. The notches are for when I do fine cuts and want a little different control I can put my thumb there. Like in this picture attached here. It gives me a different option for controlling the blade and I like it. ArtS That's a beaut!.I couldn't figure out your design, until I saw the picture of you holding it. Bree Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Pretty cool knife! Probably safer than a regular round knife. What did he charge you to make this knife? Quote Ride Safe! Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted August 7, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted August 7, 2008 Only thing missing is a design name for it. Nice concept. It just goes to show that a lot of the really good ideas come from the folks out in the world. I'd suggest a copyright and trademark pretty soon. He would want to file for a patent on the knife and its design. Trademarks are symbols marking the origin of a product(s) while copyrights protect original works of authorship. The knife and its design are not trademarks nor are they copyrightable but they may well be patentable under a utility or design patent. Quote Ride Safe!
