Members DoubleC Posted September 19, 2012 Members Report Posted September 19, 2012 I'm making a messenger bag out of this leather and I'm pretty sure it must be chromium tanned and I want to put a finish on it to protect it from the bad weather here in VT. Can I use my usual resolene on it and the glazed pigskin I used in the gusset? Or does it need something special, haven't worked with this type of leather before. http://springfieldleather.com/33869/Desert-Rough-Rider-Sides/ Below is the front with the gusset sewn on, I apologize for the picture I had to scan it. Thanks so much, Cheryl Quote
Members Josiah Posted September 21, 2012 Members Report Posted September 21, 2012 Feibings bag kote is a finish designed specifically for bags and things that will be out in the weather. Quote
Members radar67 Posted September 21, 2012 Members Report Posted September 21, 2012 I use resolene cut 50-50 with water on my arm cuffs. I have been caught out in a down pour in New Orleans with no negative effects. I am not sure how it will work on chrome tanned leather though. Quote
Members DoubleC Posted September 21, 2012 Author Members Report Posted September 21, 2012 Thanks guys. I didn't get notified of your responses. I finally asked Twin Oaks and he said the CT is designed to be pretty weather proof. He tried putting some resolene on it and when it dried, it peeled off like rubber. But I'll read up on the bag kote and see if it works for CT. Cheryl Quote
Members Britkk Posted February 4, 2014 Members Report Posted February 4, 2014 Hi Cheryl, I've been working with some Chrome tanned and have been looking for a way to dye and seal the edges- did your resolene on edges stay put? Quote
