"sizing" Before Cutting Leather In Strands

i came across a post in another forum which recommended dipping a leather piece in a weak solution of white glue and water and letting it dry before making strands with an australian strander. The person said this method is called "sizing" in millinery.

does this help cut even strands as the leather would be stiff? would it work even on tanned cow leather or would it be too difficult to get the glue solution off the leather?

I've never done this before and I would be afraid of doing that, as I can't imagine how I could get it off. And I have no idea why I should doing that... To make laces more even or what?

You've probably seen the infamous 'Earnie Cox' video on curring lace

But I read somewhere that -- that is floor wax he's pouring on the leather. Kinda sounds like the same concept.

I wonder what happened to Earnie's invention?
