What kind of a budget are you thinking about? Are they looking for trophy type stuff, or gifts?

Well considering my level of craftsmanship it's not gonna be a wall hanger by any means haha it's to be donated for auction so i guess whoever bids on it all proceeds go to winner I'm not sure...but it's an auction item is what I'm asked to make if that helps

Well, I go to a lot of rodeos, and a lot of auctions so I have a couple of ideas for you. I believe that women tend to spend more $ at auctions than men do, so you may want to lean more towards "girly" type work. Bling belts are very popular around here, and are relatively easy to make. Quality leather with a good dye job, and big flashy conchos or flatback gemstones in a pattern on them is really nice. I also just received a pattern for a Stirrup handbag that would be perfect for that. I really like those, and it fits the theme perfectly. My "level of craftmanship" isn't great yet either, but I have sold quite a few bling belts, and people love them:)

Hope that helps.

I would stay in your comfort zone of projects, I agree with Zina with the bling and women spending the most but, stay with where you are comfortable and can do the best work. A lot of people are going to see it even if they don' t bid on it, so make sure your mark and name is on it. Good luck and show us what you decide on.

Well then braid something. There are a lot of things you can braid for that auction. Notice I said you, I can't braid to save my life. It is on my list of things to learn just not yet.

Hat bands? Quirts? Key chain? I really don' have a clue. I tried to braid a key chain a while back using the book, I figured I would start on that and work my way up to a quirt, I had to go to hobby lobby to get the plastic lace with the foam guide before I could figure out a simple 4 strand square braid. Good luck

Braid a belt. 10 strand with two 1" brass rings as the buckle like the Aussies make. They are easy to braid, don't take a lot of time and will work for both men and women. PM me if you want some ideas on different patterns.

Fantastic ideas, I'm also experimenting with different things to dye my rawhide with I'd like to stick with natural ways of dying them ie: purple onions, beets, etc rather than the rit dyes I like to do things the old fashion way
