Guesses To What Dye Was Used On This Bag?

Blue dye on one of the new handbag kits Tandy is selling, seen here... http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/New-Items/44314-00.aspx

It doesn't look quite like any of the eco-flo blue dyes, at least not straight from the bottle. I wrote tandy to ask but haven't gotten a reply. Anyone care to hazard a guess what was used?

I would guess it's just a brown or dark brown antique using no resist.

I'd given up on hearing from Tandy on this (I'd emailed them a few days ago now) so posted this, and no sooner had I done so than I got an email from them with the answer. Just in case anyone else might be wondering what the answer is, here's what they said....

Use a slightly dampened sponge to apply 2 coats of Eco-Flo Super Shene over the blue Eco-Flo Professional Waterstain as a resist.

Then apply smoke black Eco-Flo Hi-Lite Color Stain, also with a slightly dampened sponge, removing the excess with a soft cloth to keep as much Hi-Lite in the impressions as possible.

That's black highlight on top of blue? My eyes must really be going. I don't see any blue whatsoever.

I'm guessing they're Dk Co Co Brown Eco Flo/ But thats just a guess based on having used it.

Ah, It seems my work computer's color pallet is a bit off. There is blue there. The gusset appears to be brown though along with the tooling on the front and the straps. On my work computer those all appear as almost the same color.

The feibing's royal blue pro oil dye isn't that far from that shade, but I'm not sure if that's what they used =\

Most likely it was Charlie Davenport who did the sample. He was in charge of all the new kits. That being the case, he is only going to use TLF products in house, so it has to be one of the eco-foo-foo dyes/stains.

Don't forget that you can mix and/or add water to change the shade which he may have done. Email him thru the evil empire's blog and maybe they'll answer after more people jump on.
