immiketoo Report post Posted December 20, 2012 Robert, I don't have experience with any round knife, but I have been researching which one to buy. I haven't heard of a J Cook, and based on the lack of response, it doesn't seem like anyone else has either. The general idea I have learned is Osborne or Gomph and maybe Stolhman, and generally speaking the older the better provided the blade is in decent shape. There are obviously any number of great knives out there. What makes you interested in this particular brand?
bruce johnson Report post Posted December 20, 2012 J Cook round knives have been around for maybe 10 years. I have had a couple and my experience matched what other people who have them have said. The steel is hard. It takes some effort to bring up an edge, but once it is there it will hold it a good while. I whacked around with a one 4 or 5 years ago and found it to be in the upper tier. If you twist off a point or ding the edge, you will have some time involved redoing it, but that is true of any of my favorites.
Randy Cornelius Report post Posted December 22, 2012 I bought one from him in Sheridan some years back, At first it seemed like a really good knife but then had a hard time keeping and edge. I put it under the magnifer and found that the colbalt steel was chipping making it hard to keep sharp. These very very small chips were hard to work out and it was a real maintance nightmare to keep sharp, sold it on ebay about a year after I got it. Someone else may have had better luck with one than me. Randy
