Thread Problem-Singer 196K5

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to sewing, & have just come across a Singer 196K5 off ebay.

The problem I'm having is with the thread, I've attached a couple of photos.

Basically while sewing, I get small loops on the the bottom, & the Rotary Hook seems to be picking the thread up & causing the material to jam. I've tried altering thread tention, but still get small loops on the bottom, along with the Rotary Hook problem.

Can someone advise please.?

Cheers,

SS

Make sure you have it threaded correctly,if so then tighten the top tension,it's your needle thread that is looping underneath. It looks like your trying to use #69 thread that's probably about all it can use as this machine is a Tailor machine for sewing clothes but

it might handle up yo 1/4" of leather.

,if so then tighten the top tension

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

I've tried tightening the top thread, from slack, to pretty tight, & it makes no difference.

In fact when tight it breaks the thread.

Would using thinner thread be an answer.?

If so, what would you recommend.?

Cheers,

SS.

Are you using the right needle size for the thread?

This is a very basic machine - essentially it is a 96k41 - so dot many things can go wrong and I suspect the thread path is not quite right.
