How To Make Snake Skin Texture On Leather?

Hello all. I wanted to know if anyone has any techniques or ideas on how i would go about making a snake skin texture on regular veggie tanned leather? Ive got decently close using using a stamp tool but, it looks more like fish scales to me. what i was thinking of doing was tracing a snake texture onto tracing paper, then tracing the design onto my leather, then using an x-acto knive and cutting slighty under the traced texture lines so this was the texure is more 3d and realistic.

i know youre thinking just buy snake skin and what i want to do is very time consuming. thats ok, i have time :D

lol, really? i shop at tandy and never seen that before. hmmm, thats interesting. still, id like to know how to, if possible do the texture on my own

I've also managed more realism with what my coworkers dubbed a "dragonscale" by using a camo stamp shaped to fit at the "base" of the scales and that extends a little less than half the length of the scale.

I'm afraid my camera suffered a tragedy at the last campout earlier this month, and cannot be repaired. The replacement hasn't arrived yet, so I can't photograph what I have. The camo tool was shaped to fit the scale by grinding the points off the sides and narrowing the shape to something like a fan shape. It's ground so that the lines radiate from the narrowest of the fan to the towards the curved edge.
