davidsharpe Report post Posted February 21, 2013 I have a Chinese machine that is the same version as the Consew & Seiko TF-6. I have threaded the bobbin according to the diagram, but I cannot get the upper thread to pick up the bobbin thread. I'm a newbie so this probably a simple thing I am overlooking. Also, will this machine take heavier thread, 92 and above? David
Les No6 Report post Posted February 21, 2013 WEIRD! That got me puzzled for a couple of minutes the machines back to front I found the manual it’s in the link below the grove on the needle faces down the arm and the scarf facing out and the needle is threaded from left to right so have you got the needle in the right way. http://www.supsew.com/KnowledgeBaseArtefacts/Documents/Seiko/Seiko%20Operators%20Guide%20for%20TE%20TF-6B.pdf
Anne Bonnys Locker Report post Posted February 22, 2013 The machine is a clone of the old Singer 18 series which was also built for Singer by Seiko and became the TF. The right hand version is the 17 or TE. Many Chinese machines leave the factory poorly set up and need retiming. Are you running it the right way? davidsharpe Report post Posted March 2, 2013 Thank you, I have that manual too. I think everything is set up correctly on the needle side of things. The problem is that I am unsure of where the bobbin thread needs to be in order to be picked up by the needle thread. I have pulled it through the throat, left it loose in the bobbin case with no success.

Anne Bonnys Locker Report post Posted March 3, 2013 I have a long beak shuttle in front of me. The 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 series from Singer share a lot of components and there are versions of all the above that use this shuttle.. When you open the shuttle to put the bobbin in the thread needs to be inside the hinged section so you can slip it into the tension spring. Take the shuttle out completely so you can see the workings better. Thank you, I have that manual too. I think everything is set up correctly on the needle side of things. davidsharpe Report post Posted March 7, 2013 Darren, I think I have the bobbin thread in correctly. I have watched the action as I hand turn and the shuttle beak just misses hooking the needle thread. It is only by about the width of the thread and this is what is causing the missed pickup, but I don't know what to do to fix it.
Anne Bonnys Locker Report post Posted March 9, 2013 drop the needle bar a fraction as this might give you a bigger loop. The hook should almost be touching the needle! What needle are you using?
