What should I adjust when the knots are visible from the bottom? I sometimes have to switch between the flat plate and the holster plate and when using the holster plate, it seems the knots show up more often.

Less bottom tension, more top tension, or a larger needle size.

I was getting those when I forgot to give the thread one full wrap around the second (btm) tension wheel. ( I have the 3500)

I thought I could thread the machine in my sleep, guess I can't yet.

One and a half actually, on the 4500. Not sure about the 3500.

I'm currently using two turns around the bottom disks.

I feed the thread down, through the steel loop guide over the bottom disks, then around the disks twice, then back up through the guide, then to the thread check spring, etc.
