tkirwan Report post Posted March 8, 2013 Hey all; So this is my first ever project that i did tooling and carving on. The sheath shape i created by laying my K-Bar knife on the leather, tracing it, then expanded the sketch to provide stitching and tooling. The tooling was applied by me just trying out the various tools I have so its not supposed to be really anything professional looking. The skull idea i borrowed from another person on here cuz i really liked it. I carved the skull freehand then tooled it. i wanted the skull to be the color of the leather after i oiled it, but i found out later the resist i used is water based and the dye is oil based, thus the dye went right through the resist. but it still came out looking killer. So please comment, good or bad, it is my first real project other than a sporran, a side pouch, and a possibles bag, all of which have no decoration just sewn leather. benlilly1 Report post Posted March 8, 2013 Nice design of the sheath...too bad the resist wasn't right, it would have looked cool for the skull to stand out. Don't know how you wet the leather but make sure it's not too wet when you start to stamp. Other than that you'll discover all the tips and tricks to perfect your projects. The more you practice your stamping the better you'll be.
