J Hayes Report post Posted March 9, 2013 Those of you using the 9" arm 441 types for holsters, is the depth of the arm enough or do you wish you had the longer version ? Thanks Jeremy
Art Report post Posted March 9, 2013 If you do bullet loops, get the longer arm. Art
Andrew Chee Report post Posted March 9, 2013 I have one. I do mostly bags on it and there are times I have to roll up one end of the piece to get it through. Sure I wish I had a longer arm but they cost quite a bit more. I guess it depends on what you're working on. Andrew
J Hayes Report post Posted March 9, 2013 Always better to have and not need thsn need and not have I guess. Would like to find a used one. Jeremy
billymac814 Report post Posted March 9, 2013 They really don't cost that much more. Its usually only a couple hundred bucks which isn't much compared to what you're already spending on the machine. If I found a really good deal on a used 9" I wouldn't pass it up but if we're talking new machines get the long arm for sure. I have one. Anne Bonnys Locker Report post Posted March 10, 2013 If you need a 441 then get the longest arm you can afford. You might be making holsters now but what might come your way in two years time?

Rayban Report post Posted March 10, 2013 I own a 9" (Cowboy 3500) I do mostly belts, holsters and knife sheaths and have never encountered a situation yet (in two years) that's made me wish I had a longer arm. I realized right away that I couldn't do bullet loops directly to the main belt strap, so I worked around that by sewing the loops to a separate leather strap ( easily maneuverable on a 9") then sew that strap to the belt. For larger pieces, of course a longer arm makes sense.
awharness Report post Posted March 10, 2013 I've got a 9" and a juki 441, I sew mainly on the 9" guess it's the flavor of the month! 99% of what I do is OK on the short arm, but that 1% you need that extra room ... You're going to wish you spent the extra money!!! I also have an ASE #9 if I'm sewing heavy waxy harness leather... I like to hammer the stitches in with the "love potion #9"! But honestly... Can't go wrong with a 441 in any length, if you haven't sewn on a 16.5" and you get a 9".... You won't regret it
