Distilled Vinegar Is 5%

I was wanting to try the vinegroon, but the only vinegar I can find is diluted to 5 % with water. Is this the right stuff?

Yes its fine, Normal vinegar ig 3-7% depending on whose you buy. I use 5% and its fine. Get a glass jar, some 0000 steel wool and a lid. Put the wool in the jar and fill the jar with vinegar. lightly close the lid. Once a day tighten the lid and shake the bottle. Then loosen the lid and wait at least 2 weeks for all the steel wool to go away. Filter and use. After 3 days you can test it and it will make it black but you need to wait the 2 weeks. I let it eat all the wool then add more. I keep adding more until it wont dissolve anymore. But some people just use a pad or two and let it go at that.

Another step is to spray some lighter fluid on the steel wool and set on fire. Steel wool usually has some type of coating on it to prevent it from rusting. This will speed the vingaroon making process up.

All the research I've done says that the vinegar will remove any oil or other coating that prevents rust. This information comes from several websites selling chemistry equipment to schools and labs for educational experiments.
