talon Report post Posted March 29, 2013 So I'm looking for a very specific type of leather, I have a sample of it but haven't found anything quite like it. I'll try my best to describe it. It is a drum dyed leather, 4-5 oz, black. It feels like veg tanned to me, but the surface is (hair side) is firmer, almost as if it was rolled. The surface has a very consistent texture, which once again makes me believe it is some type of rolled leather. It is surprisingly scratch resistant which is one reason why I want it (and the firmness is a desirable quality for this item). I know that isn't much to go buy, but can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
mrdabeetle Report post Posted March 29, 2013 Most suppliers online will send out free samples. Search for "drum dyed leather" and visit the supplier websites and use the "contact us" links. When the samples show up, compare them to the sample that you have. I don't know if anyone will be able to give more help without more info. I'm not sure if showing a picture of the sample will help either since it is the texture and firmness that you seem to be interested in. Good luck to you. I hope you find what you are looking for. talon Report post Posted March 29, 2013 My example was from a leather good made by a major holster manufacturer (safariland), a pretty inexpensive item.

As I read the description it reminds me of the Latigo I use to buy when I lived in the US from HideHouse CA. I always bought the black waxed version due to it's beautiful shine on the grain side but it also comes in a non waxed version. This leather is drum dyed but not veg.tan. Very durable and it holds it shape beautifully, several colors and thickness's to pick from :-)
