compound Report post Posted March 31, 2013 Hi all My friend gave me this saddle. He got it from his friends from the U.S. Saddle was found somewhere in Texas and we have no other information on its origin On the saddle there are not any marks or brands ,only the brass buttons on sides of fork are silhouettes of saddle. Like, if anyone has any information about this wonderful piece of history Thanks Martin
oltoot Report post Posted April 1, 2013 Just a guess but here goes: 1st guess It looks like somebody's very early attempt to modify an Indian Wars period surplus Jenkins Mule Saddle. I would have to examine closer, especially the tree from the bottom side to see if that seat leather and leather shield at the handhole have been added. 2nd guess would be an early commercial model inspired by the Jenkins many of which were just ridden off by mustering out troopers in the 1880's-1900 when the Jenkins was replaced as the cavalry mule packers rig.
