How To Buff Light Weight Leathers...

Recommended Posts

Hi friends,

I made this top piece for a Galaxy S3 case from very lightweight calf skin...

Could anyone tell me what the best method for buffing this piece would be? It's very strong, but wants to move and flex at the slightest touch...

Looking back at my workflow, I probably should have dyed/finished the leather before cutting...thanks in advance for sharing your expertise!!! :)

Yeah you should have lol

I would try to use cloth tape to make it more study to buff it.

Otherwise little buffing wheels in a dremel could work.

It will buff itself over time also...

What are you using to buff? I just grab my buffing rag and hold onto the piece with my fingers pressed on the bench then buff. Sounds like maybe I'm not understanding the problem.

Hey Cyber, the problem was that after I cut the leather out, it was so thin it wanted to move all over while I was buffing...so, looking back, it probably would have been easier to buff before cutting it out..

TheKid, any chance of a phone of the finished item? I was looking at doing a simple S3 case pouch type thing, but I've noticed a couple of colleagues at work who has one is always picking it up to check their texts etc. so a pouch type case might not be ideal so was interested in the picture you posted.

I guess all I can say is hold down both edges or something. I buff and shine some really tin veg-tan pigskin wallet guts that way and never have an issue like that. Maybe tape the edges down or something like that.
