Members eagle6977 Posted April 23, 2013 Members Report Posted April 23, 2013 Hope all are doing well. Have a couple of practice pieces that I have done. Would like tips on what could be done to make them better. Thank you all for any advice you care to give. John Quote
Members Wishful Posted April 23, 2013 Members Report Posted April 23, 2013 The only tip I would suggest is smoothing out your beveling. Otherwise, nice. The dragon tail scales look pretty good. Quote
Members Jazznow Posted April 23, 2013 Members Report Posted April 23, 2013 Hi The dragon looks awesome. Love the look f the scale. Did you cut them with swivel knife? Can't say anything about the floral one, cause I don't know anything about floral carving. Quote
Members eagle6977 Posted April 24, 2013 Author Members Report Posted April 24, 2013 Thank you for the tip. As far as the scales goes I used a U859 mule foot and a modeler to put the little dent on the back end of each scale. Quote
Members Murf Posted June 4, 2013 Members Report Posted June 4, 2013 What tool did you use on the background around the dragon? i see this done alot, and i cant seem to figure out what tool that is. Quote
Members eagle6977 Posted June 5, 2013 Author Members Report Posted June 5, 2013 Murf I used a P 206 a smooth pear shader. Taking hitting it at different angles , spinning it around, and striking it with varying firmness. Hope that helps you out some, happy tooling. John Quote
Members WScott Posted June 5, 2013 Members Report Posted June 5, 2013 Scales are awesome on the dragon Nice job! Quote
Members resqman Posted June 16, 2013 Members Report Posted June 16, 2013 I would say there is almost too much patterned tooling in the rosen piece. A smooth beveler for the roses themselves would have added just enough untextured leather for better contrast with the overall piece. Quote
