Members rawhide1 Posted May 5, 2013 Members Report Posted May 5, 2013 Hi all I have a quick question on these needles. What is the difference and what does LR stand for. I'm using shmetz 331 LR in my #6 right now. But I found some shmetz 331 needles that are cheaper. Will these also work in the #6. I'm using bonded nylon. Please excuse my ignorance on this matter. Thanks, Mike Quote
Members Les No6 Posted May 5, 2013 Members Report Posted May 5, 2013 331 is the needle system (needle size) LR denotes the needle point (LR, 45degree spear point) Schmetz only make 331's with LR points, also you don't want to be using nylon thread it's garbage not at all suitable for the No6 or for leather, linen is the thread to use in the No6 and the best available thread for leather. Members rawhide1 Posted May 5, 2013 Author Members Report Posted May 5, 2013 Les Thank You for clearing that up for me. I'm calling a place Mon. About some needles they were about half the price of everywhere else. Thanks for the heads up on the thread but unfortunately I have a few spools to get thru before I can change over. Thanks again, Mike Quote
Members Greenwood Posted May 5, 2013 Members Report Posted May 5, 2013 Hi Les Would you be so kind as to share the name and address of your supplier. Up where I am 331's cost upwards of $5.00 ea. Many of us No6 users would benefit from the info. Thanks in advance. Leo Quote
Members pcox Posted May 5, 2013 Members Report Posted May 5, 2013 I just bought 331 needles 200 & 230 $3.25 each needle. Packs of 10 Quote
Members rawhide1 Posted May 6, 2013 Author Members Report Posted May 6, 2013 Leo www. Aaronmartin.com has 180, 200, and 230 size they run around 3.00 ea. I think they also carry a 160 and I think their 4.00 ea. I think the 160 is a schmetz and the others are made over seas. Their nice folks give em a holler. I have another place wrote down somewhere that has sizes up to 300. Let me know if you want that name and I'll find it. Mike If that place I call Mon. works out I'll let y'all know. Mike Quote
Members rawhide1 Posted May 6, 2013 Author Members Report Posted May 6, 2013 Well the one place didn't work out. But there is a place called NEW England needle (1-800-243-3158) that carries schmetz needles in sizes 200,280,300 they are $2.95 ea. I just ordered a ten pak of each just to have. I may never need the two bigger sizes but if I do I'll have them. The fella I talked to said schmetz will make a run of needles but he has to order 5,000 or so of them for them to do it. Mike Quote
Members Greenwood Posted May 6, 2013 Members Report Posted May 6, 2013 Thanx to All Good leads, but I would realy like 140's and 120's for English saddlery reapirs. Maybe they are not available. Again thank-you and I will be getting a stock of needles for me and future gens. Leo Quote
