Dawn N Report post Posted July 20, 2013 I received my new Cobra 4 yesterday. I was playing with the tension getting it set when the outside walking foot stopped moving. The inside works like it is suppose to. Being Saturday, I can't call Steve. Anyone know why it's doing this and how I can fix it? I'm extremely new to these types of machines. oldtimer Report post Posted July 20, 2013 The outside foot only moves up and down, not forward and backwards. If it doesn´t move up and down there is a problem.
Dawn N Report post Posted July 20, 2013 Thanks! It does not move up and down. It did for about 10 stitches while I was adjusting tension then it just stopped. Any idea why by chance?
Trox Report post Posted July 21, 2013 Fottlift handle or chain is in up position (chain caught up in something). Or it is a screw on the backside of the machine (near the front of the head) , on the shaft that can be moved in a slot. It is for adjusting the alternating height, check if its loose. If not take of the face plate, there is two screws on the foot bar that can be loose( just follow the foot bar up and you will see them). Its for the outside foots height adjustment. Try these things first. Good luck Tor
Dawn N Report post Posted July 22, 2013 Trox, After hours of looking where everything leads too, I figured it out. The part where the screw goes on the shaft that runs the outside walking foot was broke. Must have had a crack in it and as soon as I ran my first test stickers it broke. Thanks for the reply. I'll attach a photo I case I didn't explain it well.

No, these things may happen, It has to be some fault in the casting of the part. Or machining, I do not know if they use casted or machined shafts on the Chinese machines. You must either send the entire machine back or get a genuine Juki replacement part (the clone brands use the Juki spare part program, because they do not have their own; except for a few parts like hooks and accessories). Get a magnifying glass and check for more faults when you at it, you probably will not find any. If the machine was to be hit from something during shipment, that is an exposed part too. You have to decide if you want to return it or not, check the entire machine well before you do. If this is the only fault you will manage to fix it yourself if you get a new part from Steve. Bad luck and a nearly invisible little crack it all it takes. Tor Edited July 22, 2013 by Trox
DavidMillsSaddlery Report post Posted July 22, 2013 i'm betting the assembler over torqued the allen bolt and cracked the CHEAP CHINESE PART...
Trox Report post Posted July 22, 2013 They should use removable locktite on that part according to the manual and the assembling is done with a torque wrench (it has the pressure stated in the manual).
Gregg From Keystone Sewing Report post Posted July 22, 2013 Ahhhh, thing break, it's part of life. Steve will get this crank out for sure, and he can help readjust the setting for the walking foot height over the telephone, no problem, for sure. This is what service and standing behind your equipment like Steve does will do for you.
silverwingit Report post Posted July 22, 2013 Trox, you mention a Juki 441 manual? I've searched high and low online. Do you know where to get one? Thanks, Michelle
Trox Report post Posted July 23, 2013 Trox, you mention a Juki 441 manual? I've searched high and low online. Do you know where to get one? Thanks, Michelle Hi, I cant find it on the Juki website right now. Send me a PM with your email and I will send it to you (if you post it here you will have allot of spam). It is a pdf on 210 kb only, most emails servers will handle that size. Tor I agree with Greg, these things happen. Steve will fix it in no time. Good luck Tor
Dawn N Report post Posted July 23, 2013 Greg, You are correct. Steve had it package and ready to ship before I called this morning. I had sent an email with pictures to Steve on Sunday and he was on it first thing this morning. I bought the Cobra because of all the positive feedback about it and Steve on this website so I was very confident he would get it fixed for me. Can't wait to start using it!! silverwingit Report post Posted July 23, 2013 Thank you very much for that link, Trox! I'm an engineer by training and am very much a R.T.F.M person (Read The Frigging Manual) from my early days in computing. As I said, I've searched high and low on the internet for that manual. Never even came close to finding it. Again, Many Thanks! Michelle

I better store them online if my computer breaks down they are lost. Tor
