Seeking A Custom Leather Punch

Recommended Posts

Hello, I restore 19th century pianos and am in need some custom leather tools. Presently I am seek an oval leather punch that measures approx. 11/16" x 3/8". I need to replace the old leather ovals with ones that are consistently the same. I've attached a photo of the old leather pieces that sit on the back of the keys of an 1865 Hallet Davis Square piano. The damper levers sit on them.

Thank you.

Douglas

If you're looking for that specific size and width, your best bet is to have one made. I've had several tools and dies made by Texas Custom Dies, they're on this site.

Yes they make excellent clicking dies, also Pro Rodeo Originals makes excellent dies. They also are on this site. I do custom clicking of small parts for 10 cents and up per part with your die and leather. If interested talk to me before ordering dies as not all dies click the same. -- Tex

Thanks everyone. I had no idea how to proceed. I think the Osborne Punch may work. It is only slightly off is size. Not enough to matter. What kind of prices am I looking at if I went to a custom punch?

Dear Magnum Opus,

J Dixon and Son in Walsall, England make a stock set of oval punches which may suit.

Prices as shown for specific sizes but not sure whether the largest one is big enough for you.

Good luck,

Jerry
