hello all, want to try my hand with an awl. what size awl do I need for hand stitching? thanks

Hi,It somewhat depends on how many stitches per inch (SPI) you will be doing. I Strongly suggest the Douglas brand Blades. For 6 or more SPI use the "Slim" blade. For 6 SPI or less use the "Regular" blade. The blades come sharp, & stay that way for a long time. They are avail. at Sheridan Leather for about $27.00 each. They offer Awl handles as well for about $75.00,,,, or I make custom ones for $35.00 each. Hope this helps,,, Ed the"BearMan"
