Singer 96-10

Recommended Posts

I was at an estate sale and found a Singer 96-10. I couldn't help myself and I bought it. Not that I have room in my shop for another sewing machine, but it was failry cheap. It's supposed to handle medium to heavy fabrics whereas my 95-10 is for light to medium.

My questions are:

It has a lot of grease in the head. I thought you only used oil in the head. Is this normal?

It has a heavy coat of black paint on it with drip marks and no decals. Could this be a repaint, and if so, what's the best way to remove it and repaint it?

Does anyone know where I might find an adjuster's manual for it? I have a users manual, but I can't seem to find an adjuster's manual to assist me in taking it apart and refurbishing it. We found a great one for our 201 we're working on now, but there doesn't seem to be anything for the industrial machines.

Thanks for any help.

I never got an answer on this.

Mainly I was just wondering if I need to remove the grease from inside the head and oil it. Sorry if this is a noob question but I don't want to ruin it.
