tnawrot2 Report post Posted September 27, 2013 I am looking at a Singer 112w sewing machine and would like to know if it is possible to change the width of the double needle. There are sometime I need 3/16" spacing and other times I need 1/2" spacing. If it can't be done on the 112w are there any other old machines that are capable of doing this? Wizcrafts Report post Posted September 27, 2013 Most industrial sewing machine shops can sell you the parts needed for different "gauges" of twin needle spacing. But, you'll have to move and time the hooks yourself, unless you have a dealer nearby.
gottaknow Report post Posted September 28, 2013 The 112's require changing the needle holders (screws into the same needle bar) feed dogs, throat plate and presser foot. If you're going from the common 1/4" gauge to the 3/16" gauge, you have to move both hook saddle blocks in closer 1/16" of an inch. This doesn't require re-timing the hooks. If you go down frome say 3/8' or 1/2" or bigger, you'll have to re-time the hooks. After you've done it a few times, it's pretty quick. I usually double check the latch opener adjustment as well.
