I have watched the video a number of times. Other than imbedding the picture in my mind, what mark, landmark, or point do you determine BDC?

I'm not familiar with the video that you are watching, but almost all machines work in a similar fashion.

BDC = bottom dead center, and it is normally in reference to the needle bar. With that in mind, you normally time the point of the hook to be in the center of the scarf of the needle (x) amount above the hole in the needle.

I hope this makes sense.

BDC is the position that is bottom-most on the travel of the needle bar. Watch the needle bar as you rotate it towards you. When it reaches its lowest point, just before it begins to raise, that is BDC.

I am watching Al Bane and the C4.

Go to 28:30. I can tell when the needle gets to BDC, but he says 3/16 above and he moves the needle a lot more than 3/16". What am I missing? I got pretty good timing 265 CI V8 Chevys. 'Course that was TDC or before. :)
