abcha Report post Posted October 12, 2013 I'm kind of a newbie to leatherworking... I am currently using waxed braided cord, regular stitching needles, and I have both a chisel punch and a round hole punch, but can't figure out which one to use. When I use the chisel punch the sewing looks cleaner, but it's hard to get the needle through the second time. I'm also having issues with the knots that I tie when I finish stitching coming loose(i tied a double knot). I don't really know if I'm doing this right or not! someone please correct me/give me tips. waxed braided cord-http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/lacing/11210-350.aspx needles-http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/lacing/1195-033.aspx sewing punch-http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/tools/stitching-lacing-tools/3229-00.aspx chisel punch-http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/tools/stitching-lacing-tools/3009-00.aspx
TXAG Report post Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) Get this book if you don't have it already and read thoroughly... http://www.amazon.com/The-Art-Hand-Sewing-Leather/dp/1892214911 I think that will help a lot with the issues you're having... electrathon Report post Posted October 13, 2013 Use the chisel punch for most sewing. Loose the big eye needles and get harness needles, a lot stronger. Normally you do not need to tie knots, you backstitch 3 stitches. I pull my needles with pliers all the time, to me tighter is better. Aaron
