Members Undeadzombiehunter Posted October 15, 2013 Members Report Posted October 15, 2013 You caught my attention when you mentioned riveters. I just bought an old french fly press riveter. I ahve ordered some dies for snaps and double cap rivets, which I will machine to fit. I would love a foot press riveter, like the weaver heritage, but at $700 ex-usa, that is a bit steep. Please post picks of the riveters, just so i can drool a little. Tony Quote

I did have a picture of the riveter at one stage but have lost it, I think there are two riveters, a floor standing guillotine and the Randall all from the one place. The grandson of a saddler sold it all off at once along with other things I was too slow to score. Quote
Members Leatherstrap1 Posted October 21, 2013 Members Report Posted October 21, 2013 Wow Steve it's a good job you have good contacts in the uk. I'm glad you had quite a bit of stuff from this chap. But I do have to say sorry. The early bird gets the worm. The pilot is a wonderfull machine. If I see anymore I will let you know. Sheldon Quote
Members Singermania Posted October 21, 2013 Author Members Report Posted October 21, 2013 HI Sheldon, I have a few suppliers in Europe, this machine came from a new source, though I am about to collect from the docks from an older source another with some nice heating apparatus. Grrrrr... I can see that cheeky grin from here, yep you trounced me on the Pilot, but I live to search another day. Whats your tip for painting the gold lettering on the handwheel of the no 6 without plastering it all over the place? Did you see out bushfires in the Blue Mountains on the news?? its pretty bad. We go from floods to draughts to busfires here all in a season. Regards Steve Dont forget Sheldon, you're one of my contacts as you helped me get the Randall and the Pearson no 6 bobbin winder. Regards and thanks STeve Quote
Members Leatherstrap1 Posted October 21, 2013 Members Report Posted October 21, 2013 The gold I done on my #6 and the (grrrrrr) pilot was done with a steady hand and two sized nibs of a paint pen. I cheated a little but later I would love to do it with a lining brush. It seems to have worked ok for me but do take a fair bit of time to do Steve. If I see them on my travels I will pick a few up and carrier pigeon them to you if you like Quote

Members Les No6 Posted October 24, 2013 Members Report Posted October 24, 2013 Very nice its quite remarkable to find one let alone in such condition they are easily damaged and most where striped out, usually all that remains is the odd peice of the heater. The best from a functional point of view was the bottom waxer this system only heats the shuttle block and dry thread is use on top, less mess and cleaning, and more efficient there's a good example of one on sale here http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=50923 although in the wrong section looks to be complete apart from the pipe connecting the water reservoir to the waxer, this is the one mentioned in the manual although no where near as cool looking. Pinstripping free hand is very difficult you are better off using tape http://www.pinstripinguk.com/tapes.htm or find someone that can do it. Quote
Members Singermania Posted October 24, 2013 Author Members Report Posted October 24, 2013 HI Les, yes its beautiful, I have the first arriving tomorrow and there should be a second just as good or better in a few weeks time, both pretty much complete. Otherwise its as you say, various machines with bits and pieces of tubing hanging off them. Thanks for the tip on pinstriping, I'll look it up. Any luck on the shuttle springs? don't forget I also need your address for the needles. regards STeve Quote
Members Singermania Posted October 24, 2013 Author Members Report Posted October 24, 2013 I should have two machines coming with complete heating apparatus, one for my show area and maybe on to sell. They were expensive though so don't know whether anyone would be as silly as me to pay what they cost. Anyone having a machine like this will know its worth and not sell cheaply. Here is a frontal view of one of the machines I'm collectiong tomorrow. Quote
