Members vmaniqui Posted November 9, 2013 Members Report Posted November 9, 2013 new member here and just got myself a singer sewing machine 16-188 for $1. the guy just wanted it out of his basement. so i decided to give him $5 instead of his $1 asking price. i checked that it is a 1940 machine. the buyer told me that it's been sitting there for awhile but was working before. i have not tried it yet as i figure it will need some fixing. didn't fire up the motor yet. i wonder if anyone here has any experience with this sewing machine and would be able to point me to the right direction on how to resurrect this mean machine. i figure it will need a new motor belt and a bobbin plate. anyone know where i can get those ? appreciate all the help. thanks again. Members Cascabel Posted November 9, 2013 Members Report Posted November 9, 2013 Before you run it, give it a good oiling. Don't forget to remove the cover plate over the needle bar area. There are several important oiling points in there. Quote
Members forbeskm Posted November 9, 2013 Members Report Posted November 9, 2013 (edited) Check out the 99 superior catalog on http://supsew.com/ Should give you an idea what is available. You have to go to your local sewing shop to order. Edited November 10, 2013 by forbeskm Quote
Members pcox Posted November 9, 2013 Members Report Posted November 9, 2013 Bobs got the parts your missing. I rebuilt 4 of these this summer. really good machines. with just a little work they will sew 3/8 inch leather. Will handle 207 thread, You will need to slow it down as most are set up for high speed upholstery. I put a 6inch pulley on the machine and a servo motor with a 2inch pulley on them Quote
