Members oscar621 Posted December 10, 2013 Members Report Posted December 10, 2013 I've been quietly watching and learning from everyone here for over a year and I've finally made something I like enough to share - so thanks to all of you for your ideas and suggestions that you share every day. This is a gift for a friend who is retiring from the military in a month or so. The patches on the front are for units he served in and the ones on the back are places he's been. 12"x16"x4 built from 6/7oz Triple C leather and hand stitched. Please feel free to critique and make suggestions for either design or process improvements. Quote
Members zfcjr67 Posted December 10, 2013 Members Report Posted December 10, 2013 That is a neat design. Is it rigid and do you have dividers inside? Quote
Members oscar621 Posted December 10, 2013 Author Members Report Posted December 10, 2013 Thanks. The veg tan leather holds its shape pretty well but definately isn't rigid. It doesn't have any dividers or pockets inside and that's good since I maxed out my abilities putting it together in the right order as it was. Quote
MikeG Posted December 11, 2013 Report Posted December 11, 2013 A great idea and well executed. It's a beautiful satchel. How long have you been doing leatherwork? If it's just a year, you're a very quick learner! Quote
Members lightningad Posted December 11, 2013 Members Report Posted December 11, 2013 Now that is a lovely looking bag. Great design and execution. well done. Quote
Members Paulsleather Posted December 11, 2013 Members Report Posted December 11, 2013 I like your gusset construction, Oscar. The bag has a look of solid quality to it that you should be proud of. Keep at it ! Quote
Members oscar621 Posted December 12, 2013 Author Members Report Posted December 12, 2013 Thanks for the kind comments. Mike, it has been about a year, I've been blessed with a local harness maker (who grew up Amish) who has been super patient answering questions and helping me figure things out. I got started to make myself a holster I couldn't find anywhere else and discovered a creative streak I didn't know I had. Quote
Members texback Posted December 12, 2013 Members Report Posted December 12, 2013 Very nice work. Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted December 13, 2013 Members Report Posted December 13, 2013 Wow, this is a gorgeous bag. One of my favorites I've seen. I love the original way you put it together. Quote
