How Do I.... Inlay Turquoise Etc. Into My Leather?

Howdy folks,

I've obtained some nice flatbottom crafting specimens I want to inlay with in my leather. Can anybody direct me on just how to do it?

For lack of better description I want to surround/secure the outside of my stones with the leather.

Short answer. You cut a hole a little bit smaller than the stone. Wet mold the leather down over the stone so they the leather tips up, mold the tipped up area tight to the stone with a modeling tool. Glue the stone in with a small amount of contact cement, glue a back on (second layer of leather) with contact cement.

The rest is just finessng the qualty.

He inlays a quarter into a knife sheath, not really the same but shows the whole process so might help you figure something out

I've started doing this for a lot of my dog collars. I've attached a photo of one I made using such a technique.

It's basically as electrathon said, but I'd like to add that you'll want to bevel the inside of the hole where the stone will fit, and super glue gel (often used for jewelry making and readily available in craft stores) will work better than contact cement.

Your first attempt will not look good, but with practice, it will start to look more polished. Let me know if you have any specific questions on the process, as I've done it quite a few times now.

That is quite beautiful.. and along the lines of what I'm trying to accomplish.. TY for the tips I will be trying things out next week. I'll probably have a bunch more
