joeyrsmith Report post Posted January 5, 2014 Hi again, after watching Eric's video on the safety clutch from the 111w thread from a year ago I was surprised to see that my 211w does not have one, Could someone please tell me why? pcox Report post Posted January 5, 2014 I think your machine has a clutch. 1 st pic shows 3 slotted screws. 2 nd pic shows timing mark on pulley. 3 rd shows mark on casting. Marks in pics 2 & 3 should line up when thread take up is at it's highest point. The screws in pic 1 have a second screw, a spring, and a ball behind them which drop into 3 dimples in the pulley shell this is the clutch connection. joeyrsmith Report post Posted January 5, 2014 Yes that is mine exactly. So, pcox I am guessing that if the ball drops into the dimples that is the "safety" part and the deck button reengages it. It looks so different to mine considering they both are Singer models close to one another. Plus, if I adjust stitch length it messes with the clutch setting and I have to rotate several times to get it back to timing right. I do have it working fine now. gottaknow Report post Posted January 6, 2014 Your clutch is disengaging when you change stitch length because your stitch length mechanism is operating too hard. Soak it with sewing machine oil. It will eventually loosen up so you don't disengage the clutch. There is also an oil reservoir under the bed of the machine that has felt wicks running to critical areas. The fill hole is next to the stitch change button. Keep putting oil in this everyday for a while. It takes time to saturate all the wicks, as it doesn't happen very fast. Gregg From Keystone Sewing Report post Posted January 7, 2014 Yeah, the Siger 211 machines had a lot of changes from the 111 series that were not always popular. It's not a bad system for the stitch regulator/safety clutch, but if you don't know exactly what your doing, it's confusing what is going in in there for sure. Especially if it's locked up.
