superpacker Report post Posted January 28, 2014 Does anyone know a place that will sell really small amounts of alligator? I'm talking like a square foot? Its expensive, and I don't need much, especially not the thick backs, just looking for some decent belly to try and make a few slim card cases. I can make 2 with a square foot. pete Report post Posted January 28, 2014 ok txag WE GET IT.. YOU DON'T LIKE SPRINGFIELD. BUT HUNDREDS OF US DO AND REALLY APPRECIATE KEVIN AND HIS STAFF. SO FOR GOODNESS SAKE(and for the sake of being a mature grownup) keep your thoughts and buying habits to yourself. I know and like Kevin and have been a shopper for years- he has ALWAYS done his best to help out and make things right. ENOUGH!!!!!!
superpacker Report post Posted January 28, 2014 I must agree. While opinions are appreciated, degredation is different. I have only made one large purchase with Springfield, and found the product and service to be great. Thank you for the concern, but back to gator leather suggestions. And there have been some good ones so far. I worry with such a pricy, exotic leather that I will be dealing with either an overpriced or unethical source, so this forum is appreciated

Well, my experiences and several others on here have been completely opposite of that. Maybe one day, they won't censor threads that they don't like and "hide" them from view. Until then, I think everyone has a right to know what they're getting into if they place an order with these people. ...and I am completely undeterred by you or anyone else. Bob Blea Report post Posted January 28, 2014 I second Van Amburg Leathers. I've bought from Jerry and he is super great to work with. Bob
joeyrsmith Report post Posted January 28, 2014 Gotta step up and back Springfield. Heather, the backroom leather manager has a special bin for me. When something comes in that she thinks I will like, she saves it for me. Sends me pics and goes out of her way. Complete customer service appreciation to the highest. Their exotics have also been fine. For the best of the best. http://www.thetanneryrow.com/collections/leather This is Horween's answer for the small operator. They sell what they call seconds. Which is by far some of the greatest leather I have worked with. Their normal shell leather is still too spendy for me.
Spence Report post Posted January 30, 2014 Large order or small, Springfield is for me. From the person that answers the phone to Kevin himself, it's all about top customer service.
Eccho Report post Posted January 31, 2014 Just a thought, how about gator patterned cow hide? Tandy does aligator and crocodile embossed cow hide, in several colors. I have made a couple of motorcycle wind shield bags for custom orders and find it easy to work with, and the faux croc is only 1.5-2 oz. split. The down size is, that it is 8-10 sq. ft. for about $100.00USD Hope this helps, I think it is a good product. IMHO
