Members craftsman827 Posted January 28, 2014 Members Report Posted January 28, 2014 What is the best finish product to use on winter leather boots, to remove snow/salt marks from the leather ? Here in New York they use a lot of salt on streets for snow melt. Walking in the snow puts white salt marks on your boots/ shoes. What's the best way to get rid of these marks on the leather, & then protect them. Quote
Members humperdingle Posted January 29, 2014 Members Report Posted January 29, 2014 Hi, I suppose it depends on the leather, but I put Aussie Leather Conditioner on my leather boots. Snow just falls off and no rain seems to get in, either. This Aussie stuff is great, really. I stripped an old gun stock with Nitromors, rinsed it, and applied a few coats of the conditioner, applying gentle heat from a hairdryer between coats. Looks like a perfect oil finish! Quote

Northmount Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 Use a wet tooth brush to clean out the welt. Use a wet sponge or rag to remove the salt. May need to go over them more than once to dissolve and remove the salt. Then use Aussie Leather Conditioner or Dubbin to work some oils back into the leather and to protect it. Warmth helps get the oil into the leather. Tom Quote
