Knife Sheath And Belt - First Attempt At Tooling

Hello all! I am a newbie leatherworker and here is my first attempt at tooling on a knife sheath. Many potential improvements to be made, but my biggest issue with it is that the tooling kind of got pushed out again where the knife handle went in. What can be the cause of this? Did I get the casing wrong or what could have happened? The leather is pre-dyed veg tan. Any advice or critique would be most helpful!

Hey, that is a sharp looking knife sheath. I think yoiu did well for just being a beginner. When you put the kinfe in the sheath that leather has got to go somewhere and so it will push up the tooling.

Interesting design, the grommets on the belt appear to be functional atachment points as well as decoration. Looks to be well done.

Thanks for the comments! I guess I will have to figure out a better layout for the tooling and give it another try.

As for the use of grommets in the belt, it is very much inspired by the traditional knife belts of the Sami people. Here is an example:
