The lining leather I am using now, the thread sits on top of the lining where it will wear a lot faster. I an looking for a lining leather where the thread will pull in an lay flush with the leather so as not to wear. I use 346 thread on a CB4500 and the bobbin tension is as tight as it goes. Northmount Report post Posted February 10, 2014 Tight bottom tension pulls the knot to the bottom, and the bottom thread lays on the surface, and you may even be able to pull it right out with little trouble. You need to learn to properly set your sewing machines tension. It should be set so the knot is in the centre of the leather. There are many posts and threads about how to set thread tension here. Red Cent Report post Posted February 10, 2014 I don't think you will get rid of the rough bottom stitch through adjustments. As in another post on the site, the needle slices/pushes leather down and out along with the stitch. I wet the backside of a belt and use a roller to smooth out the bumps. My stitch on top will pull level with the leather without making a stitch groove. After posting yesterday, it occurred to me that most of us use smaller thread for the bottom. My question would be to those who use, for an example, 277 top and bottom. Do you get nice straight buried stitches on the bottom? Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Red Cent Report post Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) WLG, I use 277 top and 207 bottom for everything I make. Forming holsters puts tremendous stress on the stitches but they hold. Isn't 346 an awfully big thread? I use a Cobra 4 and I like it. The belt is deerskin lined. The deerskin soft lining will not show the "exit holes" like dry leather does.
