ec2121 Report post Posted March 3, 2014 this singer was basically given for free when i bought my consew 2050. i have no idea what model it is or if's any good for leather. I need to sew under six ounces and my consew just won't do it. before i start looking for a smaller machine, can someone please tell me what model this singer is and is it capable of sew six ounces or less??? thanks
Andrew Chee Report post Posted March 3, 2014 Looks like a 31-15. It can sew six ounces fine. People here says that a 92 thread is the max. I have one. I have it set up with a 69 thread right now but want to try a 138 on it. Don't know if it will work... Andrew
ec2121 Report post Posted March 3, 2014 thanks for the fast response..i was hoping to use 138. its a treadle machine, do you think it worth the cost of adding a servo motor and speed reducer?how's your set up? thanks
pcox Report post Posted March 3, 2014 I have 2 they will sew with 138 on top and 92 in the bobbin. I changed the shuttle race in one to shuttle race and shuttle from a 16-88 and it sews well with 13 top and bottom Will sew 1/4 and under with the right set up. I have a servo and a 6 inch pulley on the machine. wok great.

Sounds interesting to me. Andrew
ec2121 Report post Posted March 3, 2014 sounds interesting...... i would like to know too. what would be the cost of doing that?

pcox Report post Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) You would need a shuttle race shuttle and bobbin case for a 16-88. Then you just remove the 2 screws that hold the race on remove it and replace with the new one. Any time you change a race and shuttle you may need to make adjustments to the shuttle driver and or the timing. The top shuttle race assembly is from the 31-15 the bottom is the 16-88 other side looks just alike. This is not hard to do but if you are not used to working on this kind of stuff you may not want to try it. This is pushing these machine beyond what they were designed for, but they are pretty tuff machines Edited March 4, 2014 by pcox
Anne Bonnys Locker Report post Posted March 10, 2014 The 31 and 16 class use similar bobbin cases (apart from the finger) and essentially the same b/c spring so I cannot see any advantage in a conversion.
