Members MuddyClearWaters Posted March 4, 2014 Members Report Posted March 4, 2014 I recover bicycle saddles. I've been using Feblings leather cement for the last few years and while it works well with the finished product I find that I'm spending a lot of time trying waiting for the glue to dry. I have to hold each area on the underside edge of the seat to ensure proper contact so this often means I sit and clamp things with my hands for a long time. when I could be doing something else. I need a glue that will apply very thin and will dry with very strong holding power within 5-10 minutes. I'm primarily bonding to foam, plastic and carbon fiber. I would give preference to any natural or low VOC suggestions. Carson. Quote
Members marine mp Posted March 4, 2014 Members Report Posted March 4, 2014 Carson, I've been using Feibings and Tandy to glue leather to leather on holsters. I was spending more time on clean-up than I liked. I contacted Eric Adams of AdamsLeather, and he suggested DAP Contact Cement. I tried it yesterday and a whole new world opened up to this homeboy!!!! The directions says it'll stick a D-9 cat to a steep bank!!! I believe it'll work in your situation. It does have some fumes, but I find the eco-friendly stuff usually sucks. Take care...hope this helps. Semper-fi Mike Quote

Semper-fi Mike Does the DAP work better than Tanner's Bond Contact Cement sold by Tandy and Springfield Leather? I'm running into the same issue using Tanner's Bond Cement. I have to wait at least 2 hours before I can work with the piece. Also ... are you using the 'Standard' DAP contact cement or the 'Gel' form? It will say on the bottle. Thanks. electrathon Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 For contact I don't think you will find anything stronger than Rennia. Cobblers use it to glue soles on shoes, and it holds without sewing. It does smell bad though. Quote
