RavenAus Report post Posted March 5, 2014 Very first look at the Underbust Harness. I tried for months to get a good pattern for one of these and eventually I drew up my own pattern. Main Features: 3 swing clasps on the front for a very elegant closure. 2 lines of lacing at the rear for a perfect fit. Unique strap design with a laced front and buckle back to provide maximum comfort and fit.
ReneeCanady Report post Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) I like this design a lot! I like this design way better than the one I made for myself. It took me a while to get the pattern correct. If you were to get orders for larger/smaller sizes for this where you would add/subtract the measurements from? The side? I made one of these for myself as an accessory to my pirate costume. I tried in on 3 of my daughters. The smallest wears an x-small juniors size, the middle daughter is a medium juniors, and I am a large juniors. It seemed to fit us all. I asked my oldest to try it on and there was no way in heck her breasts were fitting lol. So I guess my question is, if you are making it larger and didn't have the person standing there to size, how would you adjust for girth and breast cups? RavenAus Report post Posted March 5, 2014 I remember that post that is a great outfit. The starting point for this was a Butterick pattern, pic below. I cut out the pattern pieces for a size 14 in heavy paper and fitted that onto my mannequin, then played around with the shapes till I got what I wanted. I'm planning on making up the rest of the sizes to suit, using the original pattern as a guide for size. I did radically change some of the pieces to get the shape I wanted though, so it's probably not going to be that easy in practise As a general rule though, I'd add/remove half the size change on the back piece and a quarter on each front piece, at the lowest point in the curve. I'll use the other sizes on the original pattern to test whether this will be adequate. With 2 lines of lacing and the buckles on the straps it is quite forgiving on fit though I haven't really had to adjust for cup size too much thus far, my bolero went above the breasts and this is designed to go under them. Actually making something with cups, now that would be difficult! I did try my best to ensure the line of the harness would allow for most sizes but the proof is in the pudding as they say, got to get a few ladies to try it on now
ReneeCanady Report post Posted March 5, 2014 Thanks Raven! Lots of good advice there! Oh man, I remember my first attempt at actually making a cup lol. I used rice packed in socks to what I thought was about my size. I then nailed the rice balls to a board and wet molded around them. Boy I was wrong on the size! Good thing is that it fit my youngest daughter really well and she now has a nice set of armor Out of all the pics I have seen online of leather bust cups, the ones that are done with two pieces look the best to me. Prince armory has a really nice set up of female armor. I love his designs and tooling, but something as small as a cup can be frustrating. He seems to have nailed it though! Oh one more blabber while I am at it.... I think the corset back to yours is very attractive! Also, the straps in the front have a little curve to them and I think that would be much more comfy than a straight strap like I used. I feel pretty restricted in mine. If I wore mine everyday I would have great posture haha. Keep up the good work, it's always interesting to see what you post.
RavenAus Report post Posted March 5, 2014 The curve to the straps is an idea I got from a shoulder holster pattern. I really do like the way it sits though and can't wait to get someone to road test this one for me
Thornale Report post Posted March 7, 2014 Nice design ! Though I think it miss a bit of colours, for example red laces on the straps and back would look great ! I'm in the process of making an underbust corset. I also drawn my own pattern as I didn't find one freely available and it was a hard task, I can understand both of you on this.
