rdb Report post Posted October 10, 2008 They look good. The keepers have a nice block to them. The edges in the pix seem not as finished as they could be. Do a search here for burnishing, or edge treatment, there'll be plenty of info to absorb. There's quite a few leather suppliers up there, but I have not used any of them. I'll leave that to our Canadian members, who will be sure to jump in at some point.
Locknut Report post Posted October 15, 2008 Very cool! I'm fairly new at this but, like Rdb said, burnishing the edges looks good. I use Trag Gum. And Feibings makes a finish called Leather Sheen that really makes the surface look nice. Hope I could help!
gtwister09 Report post Posted October 15, 2008 I would agree with the edging, burnishing and dying the sides. However the thing that jumped out to me was the stitching. I would use smaller stitches and a smaller thread size also. I can't tell if it is just the picture or not but you should either run a crease or stitch line for the thread to sit down in. One of the pictures looks as if the thread is sitting on top of the loop. The rest of them appear as though they do have a groove. Some people don't like cutting stitching grooves in their work and use a single edge creaser to create the same effect. I generally do both depending upon the thickness and type of material. The thicker ones get a stitching groove and the thinner ones get a crease line. Regards, Ben
