Tree Reaper Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 When sewing a wallet the stitch per inch changes with the thickness of leather from 1/8 of an inch where the interiors are to 1/16 where they aren't. Would you dial in a longer stitch per inch for the thinner material or just keep it the same and live with the change in stitch on the wallet? Quote
Moderator Wizcrafts Posted March 24, 2014 Moderator Report Posted March 24, 2014 No, that's not right. You shouldn't notice any change in stitch length for such thin leather. Are you using the feed dog, or just the slotted plate? Quote
Moderator Wizcrafts Posted March 24, 2014 Moderator Report Posted March 24, 2014 Try backing off the pressure spring, bobbin and top disk tensions. Thin material has a harder time feeding evenly if the thread is pulling it back, or the feet hold it too tightly. Quote
Tree Reaper Posted March 24, 2014 Author Report Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) Thanks Wiz, the feed dog is in with the standard plate. Now that you're telling me it shouldn't change stitch length I'll try it on some scrap leather before I change any settings, the problem I had was with stingray. UPDATE It's the material, leather stitching is good on leather. Stingray is a challenge! Another problem solved, thanks again. Edited March 24, 2014 by Tree Reaper Quote
