Super cool machine!

You have my interest. In Vegas. New to "the sport" and have some questions. How would this compare to a Boss? How hard are parts (now that you've sold them) to come by? Any downsides? Can I control the speed? Thanks...

This is not my machine (see my above post) but I wouldn't give a dollar for a Boss. I'm sure there are folks out there who love them, but I've never seen one that did even a passable job. The Landis 1 is a workhorse though, if you're wanting to sew fine stuff, wallets and similar stuff, it may be a little more machine than you want. It's made to sew harness and saddlery. When they were manufactured new, they were made to sew as fine as 12psi, but needles and guide bushings are not available to sew that fine now. There are some limitations to the machine, as there are with every machine, but this is still one great deal from where I see it.

Jremmel, I would agree with Big Sioux Saddlery and shur apreciate his help, it really depends on what a person wants to do with the machine as to wether or not it will work. As far as parts, this particular machine is in good working order and has had some parts replaced in the past, but with that being said these machines are very simple mechanically and parts can be made easily by a good machinist, I also know of a couple places to buy needles and parts if you catch the owners in the right mood (possibly) but I have size 160,180, 200 size in the newer needles that go with the machine. As far as controll it's a treadle so the faster you pump the faster it will go the slower you pump the slower it will go it just takes a little getting use to but the learning curv really isn't that big, thay are prity easy to operate. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 530-260-0770 I also have other old sewing machines that might fit your needs. Thanks Mario

Mario, I'm not a "he" but that's okay :-) Wondering where you get the new 160 and 180 needles, as all that's been available for a long time as far as I know is the 200 and up. I like using mine for "raised" work, but a 200 is a bit big for fine work. Thank you!

Big Sioux Saddlery, I apologize for the mistake. I bought most of the needles I have from Eli at Landis Machine co in ill. 217-543-3464, a person might also try with varying amounts of luck depending on how bad one might need some, Keith Palmer 605-372-4523, Keith also sells machinery and leather tools and he also lives in South Dakota.

No problem, since I don't identify my gender in my profile, I'm not offended if people make the assumption that I'm male. Anyway, yes I know Keith well. He only lives about 40 miles from me, and I've gotten some old stock needles from him in smaller sizes, but when they're gone, they're gone. I will try Eli, as I need some needles for my Landis 3 also. Thank you!
