Can I dilute black dye to get a grey or will it just be a thin black? If not, do I need to use acrylic or is there a grey dye available?

You just get a delutet, wishy-washy & in most cases uneven black. As far as I know there's no grey, true dye available.

There is no pre mixed grey dye in spirit based so water based will be your only option it's available from Japan, the two brands are Craftsha and Batik. I bought them through goodsjapan.jp they don't seem to have the Craftsha listed at the moment but should be able to get it in.

I prefer the Craftsha as Batik has a strange vinegar smell to it.

I use eco-flo smoke black (one of their hi-lite stains) to get a two-toned grey/black look. Be aware though that if you're using darker leather like saddle skirting it will be more of a liver brown color. But on lighter leathers it's a pretty nice shade of grey. Because it's a hi-lite stain, it will be darker (black) in the cuts and tooling.

I would imagine that you could get a grey by taking white and mixing black w/it. Semper-fi Mike
