Members morb Posted April 3, 2014 Members Report Posted April 3, 2014 Here's a breast collar I made for my horse. The pictures aren't great, I just have the camera on my phone. The dark colour is a stain made with coffee. It's a real dark brown that doesn't really show well in the pics. I did the stitching by hand and carved the horse head. This is the first one I ever made, my daughter wants one for her horse so I'm hoping it turns out even better Quote
Members Hi Im Joe Posted April 3, 2014 Members Report Posted April 3, 2014 Man that looks great! I tried making dye with coffee but mine came out a weird brown with grey and green tints. Looked terrible. Quote
Members morb Posted April 3, 2014 Author Members Report Posted April 3, 2014 Thanks, it was a learning experience. I tried a test piece in the coffee and it came out a grey brown as well. Then I let it soak over night and it came out real nice. Quote

Members impulse Posted April 4, 2014 Members Report Posted April 4, 2014 Suggest you try black tea to color brown - works quite consistently. Quote
Members keplerts Posted April 4, 2014 Members Report Posted April 4, 2014 Looks really nice! I like the two tone color. Your stitching looks great as well. Tom Quote
