Erystawi Report post Posted April 17, 2014 Hello, I've got some 3 small pieces of bison leather, all different colour, ca 25cm x 30cm. I've never used this soft leather before, has anyone of you? And maybe share some ideas of what I can use it for? Eva from Norway

DavidL Report post Posted April 18, 2014 if its big enough you can make a dog collar. Buffalo is very strong, even chrome tanned and judging from your picture your puppy is small, so strength is less of an issue. I like your dog btw, what breed of dog is he/she? Glendon Report post Posted April 18, 2014 Those actually sound like pretty decently sized pieces. 25cm by 30cm for us backwards Americans is 9 3/4" by 11" give or take. With three of those, you can do a few nice pocket items. Like Matt said, a wallet, or phone case. Knife or tool shieth, card case, pouch or belt bag, dopp bag, key case. If you want to go artsy, leather flowers, they may be big enough for a leather picture frame, wrist bands, I'm a bit of a fan of braided leather rings. Depending on how much usible space you have, you might be able to get a clutch purse out of it. There are a lot of smaller projects you can do.
Erystawi Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Hello! My dog is a Jack Russell Terrier boy, maybe a collar could be fun trying to do well, I have been thinking about how to stitch bison leather, I do not have a sewingmachine. It is so thin, I don't think making a stitch groove would work for this thin, soft leather I have. How would you do the stitching? Then I thought I could lace it, by punching holes, for example for a purse/bag, of some kind. The bits of bison leather I have, are full usable cuts. DavidL Report post Posted April 23, 2014 You could lace it for sure and add metal eyelets or you could try saddle stitching with overstitch wheel and a stitching awl. An overstitch wheel will work on soft leather if it is rolled over a few time. Lacing will be easier and look better unless you are really really good at hand stitching. rlpullman Report post Posted April 23, 2014 I have used bison on several items. I love that stuff. It has such a nice soft feel, yet is quite strong. It sews nicely with a machine. I would not use a stitch groove. It should work ok for hand stitching, just watch your tension.
